I know there has been a lot of information circulating in the media, with conflicting advice about Tropical Cyclone Alfred—including its direction, landfall location, wind speeds, and expected rainfall. This is to be expected in a constantly evolving weather situation.

As of now, Cyclone Alfred is approximately 300km east of Brisbane, moving west-northwest at 16km/h. Wind gusts have been recorded at speeds of up to 130km/h, and it remains a category 2 system, with the potential to intensify to category 3 before crossing the coastline.

With the situation changing rapidly, it’s essential to stay informed through reliable sources. That’s why I’m reaching out to you tonight.

The Gympie Regional Council is the key source of information for our region. Mayor Glen Hartwig, the Council, and the Disaster Management team have been working hard, alongside our Crisafulli government, to keep our community well-prepared, providing constant updates to help us stay informed and ready for whatever may come.

I strongly encourage you to familiarise yourself tonight with the GRC Disaster Dashboard, which provides real-time updates on:
