Gympie’s health system is in crisis due to years of neglect by the Labor Government. Critical services like the Fracture Clinic, Paediatric Ward, and Orthopaedics have closed or been reduced, forcing locals to travel long distances for basic care.
Ambulance ramping is worsening, with hard working hospital staff doing their best under immense pressure in outdated, inadequate facilities.
The government’s failures are clear, <<First Name>>:
- Master Plan Delay: The government sat on the Master Clinical Services Plan for over two years, which said “The age and configuration of current built infrastructure does not support contemporary models of care and would be difficult to adapt to physical constraints.”
- Service Closures: Essential services have been cut without warning, forcing patients to travel to the Sunshine Coast—where public transport options from Gympie are severely limited, further disadvantaging those who need care.
- Rapid Growth: As Gympie grows, these problems will worsen unless we act now.
- Lack of Action: Despite acknowledging the need for improved hospital services, the government has delayed the business case, leaving our community in limbo.
Many residents have been in touch with me to share their experiences, and the situation is clear: our health services are failing. I’ve been vocal for years, raising these issues in speeches, media releases, Questions on Notice, and petitions, yet the government continues to ignore Gympie’s needs.
It’s time for a fresh start for our region, <<First Name>>.
Your stories will help me continue advocating for our community’s needs, and together we can push for the hospital services Gympie deserves – starting with the business case.
