It is heartbreaking to see the devastation caused across the entire region.
Homeowners, renters, businesses, and rural properties have all been seriously affected
whether from the direct impact of flooding and rain, to lack of access to roads, road damage,
loss of services, and power and internet outages.
I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous work of the local disaster management
group and multiple agencies who have assisted.
It has taken a catastrophic weather event for the Premier to finally come to Gympie for the
first time in seven years.
The Premier must listen and act.
The Premier needs to provide special direct assistance over and above what is uniformly
available.
It needs to be delivered quickly and not tied up for months in wasteful bureaucratic red tape.
The Gympie region deserves more than just another photo opportunity.
